Toontjeshuizen wil bouwen aan een toekomst voor mensen met een beperking, samen met hun ouders, vrienden en familie. Ze creëert een eigen thuis voor hen waar geluk en kwaliteit van leven centraal staan. Zo kunnen mensen met een beperking zo zelfstandig mogelijk wonen en volwaardig deel uitmaken van de samenleving.
Ontstaan van Toontjeshuizen
In 2002 werd Toon geboren als derde zoon in het gezin. Toon bleek een hersenletsel te hebben en zou wellicht nooit zelfstandig kunnen wonen. Papa Joost kon als zaakvoerder van een succesvol bouwbedrijf voor hem een aangepaste opvang opzetten, maar de sociale ondernemer in hem vond dat niet genoeg. Hij wilde ook voor andere jongeren iets betekenen. Begin 2015 werd er een denktank opgezet rond de idee “als ik er niet meer ben”. Die ging op zoek naar de juiste vorm en een goed model voor mensen zoals Toon. Toontjeshuizen wil de vele en grote zorgen helpen verlichten van ouders die voor hun zoon of dochter met een beperking een goede toekomstige plek zoeken om te wonen.
Visie en doelstellingen
Toontjeshuizen wil huisvesting, zorg en ondersteuning bieden, een plek waar mensen met een beperking kleinschalig en zelfstandig kunnen wonen en waar aandacht is voor hun noden, verwachtingen en talenten. Er is veel oog voor duurzaamheid, de woningen zijn aanpasbaar en daardoor levenslang te bewonen. Toontjeshuizen werkt samen met vaste, lokale ervaren vergunde zorgpartners die bekend staan voor een klantgerichte en inclusieve manier van werken. Zij zorgen niet alleen voor woonondersteuning, maar ook voor de dag- en vrije tijdsbesteding van de bewoners.
Hoe ziet het er in de praktijk uit?
Elke bewoner van een Toontjeshuis heeft een eigen studio met al het nodige comfort (+/- 40m²), de basishuur is 450 euro. Daarnaast zijn er gedeelde ruimtes voor eventuele groepsactiviteiten. Elk Toontjeshuis is uniek. In sommige huizen zal cohousing een zeer belangrijke meerwaarde geven. In andere kan het zijn dat net het delen van ondersteuning de belangrijkste meerwaarde is. In beide zet een Toontjeshuis in op solidariteit en betrokkenheid van alle partijen. Er wordt toekomstgericht en flexibel gebouwd. Zo worden er bv. enkele studio’s voorzien die kunnen verbouwd worden naar studio’s voor twee personen.
Elk Toontjeshuis wordt permanent bijgestaan door een gastheer of -vrouw die instaat voor de dagelijkse werking, de organisatie van de ondersteuning en de verankering met de eigen buurt. Hij/zij is de eerste (deeltijds) betaalde hulpverlener.
Hoe zien de bewonersgroepen eruit?
Toontjeshuizen kijkt naar de noden van alle bewoners en stelt op maat daarvan een groep samen. Zo wordt gezorgd voor alle zorg en ondersteuning die er nodig is. Verschil wordt als een meerwaarde gezien, waarbij elk, vanuit respect voor elkaars eigenheid, bijdraagt aan het groter geheel. Solidariteit is een belangrijk principe, zowel financieel als qua inzet.
Financiering
Het hebben van een persoonsvolgend budget is in principe nodig, maar Toontjeshuizen hecht meer belang aan het zelf kunnen kiezen met wie men door het leven gaat. Samen met de toekomstige woongroep gaan ze zorgvuldig na of de start van een project langdurig haalbaar kan zijn als iemand toetreedt zonder budget.
Om Toontjeshuizen mogelijk te maken hebben een aantal personen en bedrijven geld geïnvesteerd in het Sociaal Impact Fonds (SIF). Ouders hoeven zelf niet te investeren in het fonds, maar mogen dit wel. Per huis wordt van de oudergroep/vzw wel gevraagd om € 20.000,- bij elkaar te brengen en deze te storten op een specifieke rekening bij de Koning Boudewijnstichting. Deze som blijft daar staan als reserve voor onverwachte problemen.
Toontjeshuizen werkt uitsluitend met huurwoningen. Elk Toontjeshuis heeft een eigen vzw. Deze huurt van het Sociaal Impact Fonds en verhuurt de studio’s aan de bewoners.
